WELCOME

CHE 450G is a 4-credit-hour combined laboratory/lecture course offered by the Department of Chemistry at the University of Kentucky. The course is required for the ACS-accredited BS degree in chemistry and is held in the fall semester each year. A full description of the course content and prerequisites is given in the course syllabus.

Projected enrollment for Fall 2007 is 18 students, the majority of whom are senior or junior chemistry majors. Students perform six experiments that introduce them to fundamental concepts and techniques in Inorganic Chemistry; five written laboratory reports are submitted by each student.

CHE 450G is designed to introduce synthetic and spectroscopic characterization techniques that are typically utilized in Inorganic Chemistry. The course requires good laboratory notebook skills and techniques, collection and interpretation of spectroscopic data, and professionally written technical laboratory reports. Critical thinking is the objective of the course.

Note: As a 4-credit-hour course, students should expect to invest approximately 12 hours per week on homework, reading, and report assignments.
