CHE 450G Independent Experiment Presentations

General Details

Oral presentations of your Independent Experiments will be delivered during our regular lecture/laboratory meeting time on December 6th and 8th, 1999. Each lab team will deliver one joint presentation, but each member will submit their own report. Exactly how your team splits the workload is up to you, but each person should share equally in both the preparation and delivery of the material.

While planning your presentation, keep in mind the following:

	Each presentation should last approximately 15 minutes. Five minutes will be allotted for questions.
	You can use the chalkboard and/or overhead transparencies and/or a computer-projected presentation. 450G can supply a limited number of supplies such as overhead transparencies or pens if you need them; consult the instructor when you are planning your talk.
	This oral presentation will constitute 15% of your grade for the Independent Experiment.
	The two primary objectives of the oral presentation are: To demonstrate that you really understand what you did, why you did it and what it means. To learn to present scientific information in a clear and concise manner.

How to Present

If you have never made a formal presentation before, the first thing you should do is relax. While some of you are currently taking CHE 572, you don't need to have this course to have a good presentation!

A great resource is the ACS Handbook for Speakers, which covers all of the important factors in both oral and poster presentations. Print it out and review it carefully!
