Plagiarism is a serious academic offense. Students occasionally plagiarize unknowingly, but this ignorance of the definition of plagiarism is not an excuse and does not prevent a penalty from being applied. In order to prevent any misunderstandings about what constitutes plagiarism, the Department of Chemistry has prepared a separate web page that clearly defines plagiarism, lists the possible penalties and gives several examples.

NOTE: This statement may not be required by your instructor, but if it is then you MUST complete and return this form before turning in any assignments in the class.

1. I have read and fully understand the consequences of plagiarism as discussed in the Student Rights and Responsibilities handbook and the Chemistry Department web page on plagiarism.

2. I fully understand the definition of plagiarism and recognize specifically that it includes copying of assignments, paraphrasing, reusing old lab reports and related acts.
