General Info

Entering graduate students are supported by Teaching Assistantships. Being a TA is a requirement for graduation, and it is prudent to get this requirement completed early in your graduate career, before you begin participation in an active research project. The base salary for a beginning TA is about $17,000 over 12 months. Teaching assistantships in the Department of Chemistry are competitive, particularly considering the very low cost of living in Lexington, Kentucky (for a comparison of cost-of-living in various cities, visit this site). There are also numerous other fellowships that increase the level of support received by graduate students, and qualified applicants are automatically considered for these fellowships and scholarships. With academic fellowships and tuition scholarships included, the entire package can be worth over $30,000 per year to an entering student.
