Undergraduate Chemistry Programs (B.A. or B.S. Degrees)

Why Chemistry?

A Chemistry degree is one of the most valuable degrees you can earn at college. The Chemistry Department at UK prides itself on providing a complete, rigorous, and up-to-date education that prepares you for a wide variety of careers. Because our faculty maintain active research programs, they know what chemistry majors need to learn to succeed in a career in chemistry or an allied profession. Chemistry majors benefit from close contact with these dynamic, inspiring professors in both the classroom and the laboratory.

Our graduates can find high-paying, intellectually satisfying careers immediately upon graduation. For example, salaries for a Chemistry B.A. or B.S. with research experience begin at about $40,000 in the pharmaceutical industry. Our graduates are in high demand in fields as diverse as pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals, polymers and other modern materials, manufacturing, environmental monitoring and testing, construction, education (all levels), public policy, law, business, and of course, medicine.

Why Attend a Research University?

Undergraduate Degree Offerings

  • B.S. Degree in Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry offers a program leading to an ACS-certified Bachelor of Science degree for students who intend to become professional chemists or do graduate work in chemistry.

  • B.A. Degree in Chemistry

A Bachelor of Arts degree program is available for students who want greater flexibility in the selection of courses in other fields of science in addition to basic training in chemistry. The Department also offers a minor concentration in Chemistry.

  • Advanced Degrees in Chemistry

The department also offers M.S. and Ph.D. degrees.
